
LIPISTAT
Atorvastatin Calcium Tablets USP
Atorvastatin is a popularly used drug for reducing cholesterol. The drug belongs to the class called statins (HMG CoA reductase inhibitors).
Atorvastatin acts by competitively inhibiting 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl coenzyme A (HMG CoA) reductase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis. It acts by reducing the production of cholesterol in the body.

Primary hypercholesterolaemia; heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia, homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia or combined (mixed) hyperlipidaemia in patients who have not responded adequately to diet and other appropriate measures; primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes and at least one additional risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
Primary hypercholesterolaemia in patients who have not responded adequately to diet and other appropriate measures, combined (mixed) hyperlipidaemia in patients who have not responded adequately to diet and other appropriate measures
Adult : Usual dose 10 mg once daily; increased if necessary, up to 80 mg once daily, dose to be increased at intervals of at least 4 weeksor as directed by physcian.
Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia in patients who have not responded adequately to diet and other appropriate measures, homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia in patients who have not responded adequately to diet and other appropriate measures
Adult : Initially 10 mg once daily, then increased to 40 mg once daily, dose to be increased at intervals of at least 4 weeks; maximum 80 mg per dayor as directed by physcian.
Primary prevention of cardiovascular events in patients at high risk of a first cardiovascular event
Adult : 20 mg once daily, dose can be increased if necessary or as directed by physcian.
Secondary prevention of cardiovascular events Adult: 80 mg once daily or as directed by physcian.
