Amoxycillin Capsules

Axcil is an amoxycillin which is a broad spectrum penicillin with bactericidal activity and its also active against a wide range of gram–positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Amoxycillin is well absorbed in the presence of food and produces high serum levels

Axcil can be used to treat the following conditions

  • Urinary Tract Infections
  • Otitis Media
  • Sinusitis
  • Uncomplicated Community acquired pneumonia
  • Salmonella
  • Oral Infections

Standard adult dosage: 250mg three times daily, increasing to 500mg three times daily for more severe infections, or as directed by the physician. 

Children's dosage (up to 10 years of age): Standard children's dosage: 125mg three times daily, increasing to 250mg three times daily for more severe infections, or as directed by the physician.

Specific Dosage Recommendations

Typhoid and paratyphoid Adults-

4g daily in divided doses for 14-21 days Children- 100mg/kg/day in divided doses for 14-21 days Typhoid carrier states; 3-4 g daily in divided doses for minimum of one month.

Urinary tract infections

A dose of 3g repeated after 12 hours.

Severe or recurrent respiratory tract infections

Adults-a dosage of 3g twice daily is recommended in appropriate cases for the treatment of severe or recurrent purulent infections of the respiratory tract. Children - 2 to 5 years - 2 years up to 750mg every 12 hours 5 to 10 years - 1.5g every 12 hours

Dental Abscess

3g repeated once after 8 hours

Otitis Media

(Children between 3 to 10 years) 750mg twice daily for two days. Dosage recommendation for the prophylaxis of endocarditis for those patients at risk is available on request.
