CSR Initiatives to combat COVID 19

Two Foot operated sinks (2 units) were donated by Astron Limited to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka on 25th May 2020.The ceremony was graced by Dr. Kumara Wickremasinghe, Deputy Director General/ CEO of the National Hospital.

Another Foot operated sink was donated by Astron Limited to the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Office in Moratuwa on 3rd June 2020. The ceremony was graced by Dr. Manoja Thilakaratne and Dr. Anuradha Wijesinghe from the MOH Office, Moratuwa.

A special thank you goes out to the Engineering Team and the Branding Team for their efforts towards this worthy cause.

Astron records yet another Victory at the 27th PPA Quiz Nite

Astron Limited emerged as the Champions once again at the 27th Pharma Promoters Association (PPA) Quiz Nite which was held on 06th August 2019 at Marina Beach Hotel Colombo. This is the first time a company has won the competition for four consecutive years: from 2016 to 2019. The accomplishment of this singular honour goes to the Astron quiz team. Astron Limited competed through three teams and Team “A? secured the championship.


Team A comprised of Mr. Hiran Weliwitigoda (Captain), Mr. Asanga Panagoda, Mr. Hasanka Kodagoda, Mr. Rasika Meegasdeniya and Mr. Manjula Attampola.


Team B comprised of Lakpriya Manukulasuriya (Captain), Mr. Kasun Alwis, Vidura Vidyaratne, Charaka Dahanayake, Harsha Udayangana while Team C comprised of Mr. Udaya Dimbulagedara (Captain), Mr. Kapila Wijeratne, Ms. Mehanaaz Asmone, Mr. Tharindu Rupasinghe and Mr. Faizal Harris.


The PPA Quiz is an annual event conducted by the Pharma Promoters Association in the country. The Pharma Promoters Association conducted the Quiz Nite for the 27th consecutive time this year and 25 teams competed to win this coveted championship trophy. Astron Limited is the only company who has won the championship trophy more than 13 times, signifying the value placed by Astron on building the knowledge base of its valued employees.


The management expresses their gratitude to the three teams and especially to Team A for their extraordinary performance in securing the championship this year as well.

 

Astron wins Accolades at 18th SPC Supplier Convention-2019

Astron Limited won three awards at the 18th State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC) Supplier Convention at a prestigious ceremony held on 24th August 2019 at Shangri-La Hotel, Hambantota.


The following Awards were won by Astron Limited :

  • 1st Runner Up 2018
  • SPC Private Sector


This prestigious event was graced by the Hon. Minister of Health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne and many distinguished invitees from the public and private healthcare industry. The best suppliers were selected based on quality of products, speed of delivery and other criteria.


Astron Limited, was the only local manufacturer to win three awards under SPC Private Sector Category, for three consecutive years, surpassing foreign and multinational suppliers.


Astron, in keeping with its Mission, develops and manufactures high quality pharmaceuticals under a number of therapeutic classes. Astron supplies its range of products to the private market, government hospitals through Medical Services Division (MSD) of Ministry of Health, to the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) as well as to a number of export markets.

Astron records a Hat-trick Victory at the 26th PPA Quiz Nite

Astron Limited emerged as the Champions once again at the 26th Pharma Promoters Association (PPA) Quiz Nite which was held on 12th June 2018 at Hotel Galadari, Colombo. Winning the championship regularly has been a trait of Astron since the inception of the competition. In the entire history of the Quiz nite program Astron has always been placed within the fourth runner up position. The extraordinary feature this time in the brief history of the PPA Quiz, this is the first time a company has managed to win the championship three times in succession from 2016 to 2018 creating a hat-trick. The accomplishment of this singular honour goes to the Astron quiz team. Astron Limited competed through three teams and Team “A? secured the championship. It is noteworthy that teams “B? and “C? were placed fifth and seventh position respectively. Team A comprised of Mr. Hiran Weliwitigoda (Captain), Mr. Asanga Panagoda, Mr. Hasanka Kodagoda, Mr. Rasika Meegasdeniya and Mr. Manjula Attampola.


Team B comprised of Mr. Ruwantha Nanayakkara (Captain), Mr. Vidura Vidyarathna, Mr. Buddhika Abeyrathna, Mr. Lakpriya Manukulasuriya and Mr. Udaya Dimbulagedera. Team C comprised of Mr. Kapila Wijeratne (Captain), Ms. Mehanaaz Asmone, Ms. Ruchini Ediriweera, Mr. Sameera Premachandra and Mr. Kasun Alwis.

Best Woman Corporate Leader for 2018 – Gold Award Ms. Marise Deckker – Chairman/Managing Director Astron Limited

Women in Management (WIM) in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) a member of the World Bank Group selected Ms. Marise Deckker as the Gold Award recipient for Best Woman Corporate Leader of the year at the “Top 50 Professional & Career Awards? Ceremony. Ms. Deckker is the Chairman/Managing Director of Astron Limited.


The Company was incorporated 62 years ago in 1956, setting up the first pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Sri Lanka. Pfizer Inc. NY held the majority shareholding until 1993, when it divested it shares in the Company. Ms. Deckker spearheaded the first management buyout in Sri Lanka in 1993 and the name of the Company was changed to Astron Limited.


Astron Limited today develops, manufactures, markets and exports a wide range of pharmaceutical, nutritional supplements, animal health and herbal products. Astron is a market leader in manufactured health care products in Sri Lanka.


The WIM Awards highlight and honour women in the national and regional economy and celebrate their achievements, experience and creativity in institutions, professions and businesses. Ms. Deckker was recognized by WIM for her leadership of the Company over the last 25 years. Ms. Deckker is a Chartered Accountant by profession and holds a Diploma in Business and Financial Administration also from the Institute of Chartered Accountants. She also has a MBA from the Post Graduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayawardenepura.


The awards ceremony was a prestigious event held on 7 August 2018 at the Hilton Colombo. It was attended by members of parliament, diplomats, professionals and business leaders. The chief guest at the ceremony was the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Mr. Karu Jayasuriya.
